Our History

Community Involvement Teams In Every Sector (C.I.T.I.E.S.)

Was established, 1969, in Los Angeles, California to provide assistance to minority employees and the community.

The NETWORK

Was officially established, January 1988, St. Louis, Missouri. The charter members worked with similar groups in Texas to establish a Regional NETWORK in January 1989. C.I.T.I.E.S. and The NETWORK employee organizations merged June 1998 and became Community NETwork African American Telecommunication Professionals of AT&T.

SNET

In August, 2000, employees representing the Southern New England Telephone subsidiary of AT&T Communications became part of Community NETwork.

ABAP

Advocacy panels were established throughout the Ameritech companies in the early 1980’s. In 1990 the Black Managers Association, the Network of Black Professionals, the Minority Advisory Panel, and the Progressive Managers Association merged to become the Ameritech Black Advocacy Panel. In August, 2001, ABAP became part of Community NETwork.

The Alliance

Has its roots in three AT&T African American employee’s organizations: AT&T Black Laboratories Employees (1969), The Committee of AT&T Black Employees (1982) and the AT&T Employee Focus Group (1983). The three organizations merged in 1984 and incorporated in 1985 to form The Alliance of Black Telecommunications Employees, Inc. The Alliance merged with Community NETwork in 2006.

BNAT

Bell South Network of African American Telecommunications Professionals was formed in 1992 as “The BellSouth Networking Action Team” to equip African American employees with information and education needed to make sound career goals and life in general. BNAT merged with with Community NETwork in 2007.

CAAP

Community of African American Professionals at Cingular Wireless was recognized by the company in Nov of 2003 as a National Diversity Group of Cingular Wireless. The purpose of the CAAP is to promote unity and advancement among African Americans and other diverse groups of Cingular Wireless, by establishing values conducive to growing the Cingular Wireless business, while simultaneously encouraging respect and personal growth in and outside of the work place.
